:: Spotlight :: Induction of Richard Burton into the Hollywood Walk of Fame

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

It's amazing to think that Richard Burton had not been inducted into the Hollywood of Fame until today. He had never been nominated until last year. So it was today in Hollywood Boulevard that I found myself privileged to have witnessed the ceremony to induct the legendary actor of stage and screen into the Walk of Fame.

It was quite a rousing affair with several people travelling from Wales to help celebrate the event. Having the ceremony on St David's day (March 1) was appropriate and British actor Michael Sheen was one of a few people who spoke passionately of the fervent Welsh spirit that epitomized Burton. There was even a rendition of the Welsh national anthem to add to the emotion.

Richard Burton was represented by his daughter Maria and grandchildren Morgan and Charlotte, plus other relatives and close friends. It was terrific to have a brief chat to Maria and how proud she was about her father's induction. She mentioned to me about future recordings that will be made, featuring “that voice” as people always said about Burton. He had a magnificent speaking voice.

Fittingly, Richard Burton's Hollywood star is next to Elizabeth Taylor, whom he married twice. Also as part of the celebration, it was announced that the film “Cleopatra” will finally be released on Blu-Ray by 20th Century Fox on May 21.
