:: Entries open for 2018 St.Kilda Film Festival

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

Entries into the coveted St Kilda Film Festival competitions are now open. Both emerging filmmakers and industry professionals are being called on to submit their creative works in the following categories; Australia’s Top 100 Short Film Competition, SoundKILDA Music Video Competition and Under the Radar Youth Competition for filmmakers under the age of 21.

The 2018 event will run Thursday 17 May to Saturday 26 May, with the festival once again seeing the St Kilda Town Hall transformed into a state-of-the-art cinema and festival lounge. The St Kilda Film Festival, proudly presented and produced by the City of Port Phillip, will screen the Top 100 short films with a prize pool totalling over $50,000 worth of cash and in-kind craft awards, including a $10,000 prize for Best Short Film.

Accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Festival is an Academy Awards qualifying event – with award-winning films from St Kilda Film Festival eligible for consideration in the OSCARS Short Film and Documentary Short Subject Awards.

The ever-popular SoundKILDA Music Video Competition is back again, showcasing the creativity and skill behind the music video format. Soundkilda awards prizes for Best Music Video, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Craft, as well as a special audience choice award on the night.

Filmmakers under 21 are also invited to enter their work in the 2018 Under the Radar Competition, an initiative of the City of Port Phillip’s Youth Services division. With successful entrants screening as part of the St Kilda Film Festival, Under the Radar provides an opportunity for young filmmakers to show their work in an internationally recognised film festival, and encourages young filmmakers to pursue their craft.
