By: Carmine Pascuzzi

Cinema Nova is proud to announce that it will be the exclusive Melbourne exhibitor of the award-winning social drama from director Ken Loach IT’S A FREE WORLD. Released in Australia by Roadshow Films, IT’S A FREE WORLD was nominated for the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival while writer Paul Laverty won the Golden Osella for Best Screenplay. Director Ken Loach was the recipient of both the EIUC Award, presented to films that deal with Human Rights, and the SIGNIS Award - Honourable Mention, presented by the World Catholic Association for Communication, at the Venice Festival. IT’S A FREE WORLD screened at the 2008 Melbourne International Film Festival.

IT’S A FREE WORLD is the gripping story of English working-class single mother Angie (Kierston Wareing) who finds herself dismissed by her employer, a shady agency that specializes in supplying cheap European labour to UK businesses. Together with her flatmate Rose (Juliet Ellis), Angie enters the lucrative but ultimately dangerous world of employing workers who have left the continent for what they perceive will be a better life in England.

Known for creating uncompromising films that deal in real human dramas and situations, Ken Loach is best known for his Palme d’Or winning THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY, the multi-award winning MY NAME IS JOE and his feature directorial debut POOR COW, starring Carol White.

IT’S A FREE WORLD opens exclusively at Cinema Nova on December 4, 2008.
