:: Save Your Legs goes into productionBy: Carmine PascuzziAustralian comedy Save Your Legs! is going into production, with principal photography commencing in Melbourne on December 12, followed by an extensive shoot in India early in 2012. The film boasts a talented cast very familiar to audiences, including Stephen Curry, Brendan Cowell and Damon Gameau. Behind the camera, the crew consists of a mix of both new and highly experienced industry talent. First time feature film director Boyd Hicklin will helm Save Your Legs!, alongside producers Nick Batzias and Robyn Kershaw. The script was written by Brendan Cowell, whose authorial talent has brought us The Slap & Love My Way. Save Your Legs! is inspired by the documentary of the same name, also directed by Boyd Hicklin, which followed a suburban cricket team on their tour of India. The feature film is a ‘coming of middle-age’ bromance that follows three long time best friends who try to realise a childhood dream and play for Australia. The film is expected to release theatrically in late 2012 through Madman Entertainment, with international sales being handled by Protagonist. Managing director of Madman Entertainment Paul Wiegard commented; “Madman are thrilled to be working with our very own Nick Batzias alongside one of Australia’s finest producers Robyn Kershaw and first time feature director Boyd Hicklin. Whilst Boyd is little known in the film world, in the commercial world Boyd is renowned for his dynamic and creative energy. Boyd’s passion for this story stems from his experience with the actual Abbotsford Anglers Cricket Club who took themselves off to India way back when….only someone with Boyd’s guts, humour and great spirit can now deliver this film to audiences both here and abroad.” Development and production partners include Screen Australia, Film Victoria & the Victorian Government, Madman Entertainment, Robyn Kershaw Productions, Melbourne International Film Festival Premiere Fund, Deluxe & the Nine Network.
