:: Celebrities Host Three Months of Films in St.KildaBy: Carmine PascuzziSt Kilda’s Tuesday Flicks is a three month celebration of St Kilda’s contribution to the Australian film industry. Every Tuesday evening at the Palace George Cinema, Fitzroy Street the festival will present feature and short films, music clips and archival footage introduced by Australian movie greats. It has recently started to very good audiences. Celebrities presenting at St Kilda’s Tuesday Flicks include local actors, directors and writers. Some of the big names involved include Rachel Griffiths, Guy Pearce, Magda Szubanski, Raimond Gaita, Stephen Curry, Robert Taylor, Clayton Jacobson, Maggie Fooke, Richard Lowenstein, Adam Elliot and many more. Many of the celebrities have been directly involved in the films they introduce and have participated in their selection for the festival. Rachel Griffiths, St Kilda’s Tuesday Flicks unofficial Ambassador, is excited about what the festival means for the community and Australian film. She said, “St Kilda’s Tuesday Flicks is a timely celebration of the creative spirit which the diverse environment of St Kilda has stimulated and nurtured for more than a century. Tuesday Flicks continues this tradition, it is a fantastic idea spontaneously developed, recognised and supported by an inspiring community." Attendees can expect to see a selection of films that span genres and formats. From Oscar nominee Rachel Griffiths‘ 'Children of the Revolution’, to previously unseen interview footage with Michael Hutchence captured by Richard Lowenstein, the festival gathers the area's finest offerings and allows the stars to present them in person. The weekly evening of film is proudly presented by unChain St Kilda and assists in raising funds to support the legal challenge of the St Kilda Triangle development decision. Entry is by $10 (minimum) donation. Screening time each week is at 6:30pm. |
