:: Bernard Fanning - Tea and Sympathy

Bernard Fanning

This is the debut solo release for the Powderfinger lead singer. It’s a venture that he’s wanted to do for a while and, during the Powderfinger recess, takes the opportunity to fulfil his desired musical flavours. With a good mix of country rock and blues rock, Bernard has compiled some interesting thoughts about what he sees in life and expresses them personally and spiritually. There are restrained tracks that would never be considered whilst in the band environment, but this is his opportunity to release his feelings in a rock ballad sense. There is even a nod in the direction of gospel music as Bernard wrote ‘Watch Over Me’, a thought at writing a hymn in its mellow sound. Bernard lends his hand at using several instruments – guitar, piano, harmonica and bass. His guest musicians serve him well, especially in the use of the lap steel guitar and violin. This is an enjoyable excursion from Bernard Fanning and he looks to have set about a future beyond Powderfinger.
