:: Bluebottle Kiss - Come Across

Bluebottle Kiss

They have been a vastly underrated, if not ignored, band for long enough. Sheer hard work, persistence, and retaining that creative edge sees Bluebottle Kiss unleash their melodic sensibilities from stylish and insightful songwriting. They’ve taken the right course from previous album “Revenge Is Slow”, and grown further with profound richness. There is a confidence and determination that, after periods of uncertainty, has steeled the band, in particular chief songwriter Jamie Hutchings, into a rare Australian musical commodity of vision and escapism. The creative spark of Hutchings shows out wonderfully throughout “Come Across”. The songs are well structured, in terms of lyrical content, and there is more than a hint of excursions into a jazzy and bluesy feel when Hutchings tells his stories. It just seems that Jamie and the band are more comfortable in where they’re at, and this could be the catalyst, after solid overseas interest from the previous album, for them to step up the ladder and gain deserved recognition. I enjoyed this album very much and Bluebottle Kiss has managed to serve up one of the most original works of 2003.
