A refreshing new sound from a refreshing new voice in Australia. This is Girle, a young woman from a classically trained musical background who has just been unveiled through this fulfilling set of songs. She gathered some accomplished Melbourne musicians to add their worth to a delightfully gorgeous voice. She reflects on her personal thoughts and there are poetic ballads to more upbeat songs to provide some versatility. She has the acclaimed producer Kalju Tonuma (Bodyjar, 28 Days) at the helm to form the cohesive sound. My highlights are track 2 “Tell Me I’m Your Drug”, track 3 “High”, track 6 “Red Room” and track 8 “Cruel”. These duly showcase Girle’s singing prowess. However, the whole CD will grow on you with a few listens. It’s very enriching and poignant and I am sure we will hear much more of Girle in the future.
