The Hampdens

This is a very good first-up release from this Perth band. The EP contains a nice blend of moods with captivating vocals from Susannah Legge and Andrew McDonald. The band has the use of cello and violin, both contributing to a full, strong sound. The tracks are very even in standard and well compiled – a good indication of where they’re at and with much scope to work with further. The four songwriters form the core of the band, although they have other members who come and play in an ensemble of sometimes eight people. Good music from a band from which we’ll hear much more. Their next CD will be out in the near future.
