Mega-dance DJ Nick Skitz is back with yet another dance compilation crammed with your favourite hi-NRG anthems. Nick is feeling nostalgic, it seems, as the album features remixes of old boogie anthems like Scatman John’s Scatman, Culture Beat’s Mr Vain and of course, You Can’t Touch This by MC Hammer. A result is a mixed bag of tracks that work and others that fail to hit the spot. In Scatman’s case, the thumping techno beat takes away from the original track’s funky mood and completely distorts what is otherwise a groovy rhythmic effect. Haddaway’s What is Love, however, is given a nice update with a modern beat that complements the original. And so it goes throughout the whole CD. On the most part, it definitely had me tapping my toe, nodding my head and pulling some sporadic dance moves in my chair. The album is everything it set out to be – energetic, upbeat and a floor-filler. It will undoubtedly be a hit with fans of the Hi-NRG techno genre. Nevertheless, it offers nothing new in sound and lacks in musical progress from five years ago when I myself fancied a bit of a rave.
