:: Adam Green - Gemstones

Adam Green

With a cover straight out of the seventies and songs that sound like they‘ve been poached from a bad cabaret, Adam Green, one half of iconic act the Moldy Peaches, will be familiar to most. On 'Gemstones’, his third solo effort, Green‘s art-pop tunes and off-kilter humour will weave their peculiar spell on some and leave a bad taste in the mouth's of others. In general songs like 'Over The Sunrise’, ‘Crackhouse Blues’ or ‘Carolina’ are quite catchy in a kitsch kind of way, with their organ based grooves, comical lyrics and lines and their not so serious approach. But on the other hand tracks such as ‘He's The Brat’ and ‘Teddy Boys’ come across as just plain annoying and to be honest, amateur and basic sounding. With other song titles ranging from ‘Choke On A Cock’, ‘Chubby Princess’ and ‘Bible Club’, it‘s fairly obvious this is music of the lighthearted kind. With his tongue firmly planted in his cheek, Green and his album 'Gemstones’ can be fun and enjoyable but also equally as goofy and tedious.
