:: Air - Love 2 (enhanced CD)AirAir may not be household names in Australia but they’re electronica gods in Europe. Love 2 is their new album and it is on one highly synthesized trip, which is common place for this French-born duo. Love 2 kicks off with ‘Do The Joy’. Short on words, especially anything in English, ‘Do The Joy’ is tightly-contained 3.05 minute proof that Air truly is Pink Floyd on magic mushrooms. As per usual, the synthesizer takes centre stage, transporting you into one of those really old sci-fi movies before a scratchy French-voice in desperate need of a cough drop bursts onto the scene, scares the hell out of you and fades into a series of twinkling xylophone notes. It may seem strange to describe the tracks of Love 2 like they’re movie script rather than songs but there’s honestly no other way to describe Air’s musical trip. ‘Love’ is a mellow and groovy beach club anthem that is punctuated by the sort of wind pipes you’d hear in a world music CD while ‘Missing The Light of Day’ is set in the middle of a factory with its squeaking and squashing robot beats and orchestra-esque harp chords. And ‘Sing Sang Sung’ explodes with a Jamiroquai flair of energy before a heavily-accented and seductive women lulls you into a charming melody of muted syth beats and bright sounding bells. In Love 2, Air is showing off their incredibly synthesized talents. An out-of-this-world journey, the album is a brilliant and unique mix of pounding, left-centre beats and psychedelic eurodance. | ![]() |
