:: Alpine - ZurichAlpineThe Melbourne six-piece band was formerly known as Swiss. Alpine have now been signed to Ivy League, a record label whose roster also includes the talented Cloud Control, The Mess Hall and Sparkadia. ‘Zurich’ is their debut EP and it is full of infectious beats and gives you the immediate impression that this band can go places. Alpine are a capable ensemble with two female vocalists leading the way. The opening track ‘Heartlove’ kicks in with a frantic urgency that is very catchy. ‘Too Safe’ is a more subtle number and strong enough to be considered as an outright single. ‘Villages’ is a delicious track too, full of scope and energetic chorus. The rhythm section works really cohesively and there are well-shaped harmonies throughout. Though not commercial radio-friendly (sadly, in this country, not much is), the songs will gain support from the public as it's the type of music to stick in the mind. The musicianship is extremely solid with punchy guitars and soft synths. It augers well for the future and they are a talented live outfit to boot. Keep a watch on this band. | ![]() |
