I remember hearing about Anika Moa several years ago as a fresh new musical talent from Auckland, New Zealand. After being absent to Australia for a little while, she returns with a new album that was self-produced in her house. Don't think it is an indication of a minimalist approach. The album contains some strongly romantic and sentimental songs amid a blending of live band and precise string arrangements. Anika has shown herself to be a very honest and expressive singer, able to scale varied heights amid flavoursome arrangements, with those dark-tinged strings, glockenspiel and accordian. From the delicious “Dreams In My Head” to “Thinking About Tomorrow”, there is a mood for all to experience and enjoy. Previously, the good hunoured nature and irreverence was a factor that stood out in her personality. This time, Anika has shown a more serious side with these well crafted and beautifully arranged numbers.
