:: Apache Beat - Last Chants

Apache Beat

She may little-known to a certain part of the music population at the moment, but Australian-born, US-based, Ilirjana Alushaj seems set to make a big impression as lead singer for the band Apache Beat on top of the band‘s debut album ’s 'Last Chants’. There is a telling aggression behind the force of their music and it is in no small part due to the brooding vocals of Ilirjana who seems to exercise her craft effortlessly. She has that pin-up style as well (part-time modelling amongst her other forays), that puts extra oomph into the band‘s profile. Yes, there is a band behind her, and they are downright capable. Apache Beat have already propelled themselves into worthy tours alongside such artists as School Of Seven Bells, Gossip, and We Are Scientists and are drawing accolades from many other bands. So much so that there are several collaborative efforts in this album, with guest performances from members of The Rapture, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Lightspeed Champion. The production and mixing are excellent and you can just sense the punkish elements and synth-laden melodies apparent, which give something not heard much in music today. Right from the track 'Knives’ there is something pulsating in the vocals and instrumentation. It's swirling, yet forceful. The album moves through melodic passages and compelling sounds. Not all the songs are brilliantly composed, but with the fine production and Ilirjana's voice, the ingredients are there for greater development and scope. Apache Beat are captivating enough to enhance their claims into the wider musical sphere. This is one of the really good albums I've heard in recent months.
