:: Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not

Arctic Monkeys

Much hype surrounded the build-up towards this release. The buzz surrounding the Sheffield band's live shows and good marketing strategies allowed this album to be the fastest-selling debut album in UK chart history. To the point, however, that the album has substance and quality for the most part. There are a couple of let-down moments. The sharp bursts and witty tones deal with the realities around them and they deliver the tracks with lots of verve. Lead singer/songwriter Alex Turner shows sharpness in his pensive lyrics. Maybe we can thank The Strokes (not an old band) for the influence here. These British lads, not long out of their teens, give raw youthful energy and display charm and confidence that should ensure a steady rise on the popularity charts. Watch for a few more singles to come and their Australian tour in a few months.
