We all know of them by now; the eldest member is 20 years of age, they own the biggest UK debut of all time, their first single ‘I bet you look good on the dancefloor’ rocketed to #1….they are of course the Arctic Monkeys and, if we are to believe both the credible and not so credible sources, they are the outright explosive leaders in British guitar pop rock. So, does single number two ‘When The Sun Goes Down’ live up to the hype? The short answer is: yes. Whilst not as catchy as single number 1 rest assured this is still a very satisfying single; intensely sharp and lined with brash UK street swagger. Amazingly for such a young band, there is an almost recognisable guitar riff and four-piece sound complete with lyrics bred from real life observations that are thoughtful, unadulterated and evocative. For serious fans, this track has inspired a soon to be released short film entitled ‘Scummy Man’, addressing the after dark street lives of some of the neighbourhoods more unsavory types. Arctic Monkeys is on tour in Australia July 30 - August 09. All hail Britannia.
