The City Series, as being populated by Petrol Records continues to thrive and burst with quality. Again, listeners are drawn to the sexy cover artwork that displays a Spanish senorita in full glory, and epitomising the sultry Latino passion evident in this collection. What this CD might show to the purist, is that there are defining Catalan sounds as distinct from Spanish. In the main, Catalan is rightfully represented, though a general Spanish influence resonates. Generally, the percussion that is instilled as in Stigmato Inc’s “La Maison De La Trompette” and Shiva Sound’s “Nada” indicates the flavoursome treats of the Catalan city – the food, the bars, the beaches and fashionable people. Then, a tender, sweet sound, “Illuminados” by Domestic brings this nationalistic feel to a pleasant close. As in other City titles, the sleeve notes provide some facts and figures about Barcelona. With this stylish compilation, you can settle down into a siesta and take this groovy, sensuous trip.
