The Beautiful Girls

This Australian nband has worked very hard in getting to this third studio album, and they continue their good form in producing a quite ambitious set of rock tracks, laced with hooks and grooves. They provide the type of music which lends itself to a feel-good sing-a-long approach. The interesting thing is how expansive they've gone in capturing something more than what may have been considered an underground sound. There is much emotion and intensity when you delve into the mechanics. The rock flavours take the band beyond their previous excursions with manifesting greater quality and resourcefulness in their verses and choruses. “I Thought About You” is typical of the fresh positive vibe and it has enjoyed good radio airplay across Australia. Another highlight is “Bring Me Your Cup”. The keyboard-driven reggae rock sound provides a fitting platform for one of the good love songs you'll hear. The vocal line is catchy and the lyrics are simple and effective. The improvement for the band comes in the shape of greater consistency where they might have previously had a mish-mash of good and average songs. These ones are mostly very good. It could signal the beginning of an exciting new phase for The Beautiful Girls as one of Australia's more prominent independent bands.
