:: Ben Lee - Into The Dark

Ben Lee

Ben Lee’s album “Awake Is The New Sleep” has been one of the Australian success stories of 2005. If Ben’s recent wins at the ARIA awards are anything to go by, he certainly has delivered one fine album. “Into The Dark” is an interesting pop track which Ben claims is about surrendering one self and allowing yourself to love and be loved. “Hard Drive” is a stripped-back ballad originally written for Evan Dando’s last album. Fans and those simply curious with the Ben Lee phenomenon are also treated to some other rare and wonderful tracks on this single. Album track “Apple Candy” appears in its early demo form and the video to “Catch My Disease” emerges in its full technicolour glory features with the children’s toy piano accompaniment. So the next time you’re at the charity shop just remember that any item for sale has the potential to make the next hit record. Lastly, although Ben is one of Australia’s leading songwriters at the moment, he also appreciates the work of others. This is evidenced in his great cover of the Talking Heads’ classic “Life During Wartime” which also features Ian Ball from Gomez on guitar and vocals. “Into The Dark” is about surrendering yourself. I suggest you do just that with this single and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
