:: Bertie Blackman - Black

Bertie Blackman

It‘s wonderful to see the development of this artist. Sydney-based Bertie is sure to be an independent favourite with the charismatic set of songs on this second album. The catchy, raw vocals that she delivers are matched by a rare intensity and fervour rarely heard from an Australian artist. The album actually gets better as it goes along and becomes more enlightening. Interesting tracks to note are opening numbers 'Television’ and ‘Hold Me Close’, yet the last few tracks, such as ‘Don't Give It Away’, ‘Smoking Gun’ and ‘Last Song’ breathe freshness and life. The album shows Bertie to be a fine songwriting talent and the guitar playing is effective too. She is simply captivating and should be a radio/television favourite one day and surely a future star. However, the fickle nature of the Australian music industry probably won't allow it. It may be a missed opportunity because Bertie Blackman is an immense talent.
