:: Bertie Blackman - B Sides: Secrets and Lies RemixedBertie BlackmanI’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for Aussie singer-songwriter and pocket dynamo Bertie Blackman. She’s a one woman musical cyclone - a real tour de force in the Australian music scene. ‘B-Sides: Secrets and Lies Remixed’ is a twist on her well received ‘Secrets and Lies’ album of last May. Often remix albums (and singles) can be very hit and miss. In the case of Blackman, there’s just a bit more to keep the listener interested. I won’t say it’s an out and out winner but songs like ‘Sky is Falling’ and ‘Black Cats’ in all their electro glory are noteworthy listens. This remixed release uses the creative talents of a handful of DJ’s and producers in and around Melbourne town. In short, the album is as interesting as Blackman’s original release, though for obviously very diverse reasons. The punch and intrigue of this remix album is likely to draw in people previously not interested in Blackman, while also increasing her appeal with her existing fan base further. Most of the remixed tracks are fairly low-key, bass-heavy lounge type affairs, but there’s enough here to get excited by and slow dance the night away. | ![]() |
