There’s just so much great music coming out of Australia and New Zealand at the moment, you get the feeling every so often you wish it would slow down a little bit, if only to prevent us missing out on a second of it. If you have missed Betchadupa and their brilliant album ‘Aiming For Your Head’, hit the rewind button now! On first listen you get the feeling this is something special, on second listen this initial feeling is replaced by unbridled enthusiasm. From the intoxicating opener of ‘My Army of Birds and Gulls’, to the rock ‘n roll dance anthem of ‘Move Over’, every second of ‘Aiming For Your Head’ is worth every listen and re-listen it gets. The album is built around an excellent quirky rock styling, combining elements of the old, new and unheard, to create a sound that feels fresh, new and completely familiar all at the same time. In an era when recycling seems a way to sure fire success, Betchadupa have managed something great, they sound unique. I’m not sure what lies ahead for Betchadupa, but if ‘Aiming For Your Head’ is an example of what we can continue to expect from them, then it will undoubtedly be fame, and lots of it. As I have said, unbridled enthusiasm is born, let it spread!
