Big Boi, one half of pop/hip-hop supergroup Outkast, steps out on his own with “Got Purp? Vol 2”, a compilation project by the Purple Ribbon All-Stars (Purple Ribbon is Big Boi’s custom label through Virgin). Big Boi’s knack for producing innovative, genre-bending hip-hop is displayed once again with “Got Purp?” blending soulful funk, hard-hitting rap and rhapsodic interludes. “Kryptonite” is a pulsing, pumping track which kicks things off with a bang, whilst “U Got Me” by Scar featuring Big Boi is a creamy electro R & B cocktail. The ladies will love the harmonies on “Let it go” and “Shit ya drawers” is a cruisy tune made for driving. I think it’s safe to say we can expect big things from this boi. Get purp.
