:: Blessed By A Broken Heart - Pedal To The MetalBlessed By A Broken HeartYes, the ‘80s sucked the first time around but Montreal’s Blessed By A Broken Heart are about so much more than reinventing the wheel – ‘Pedal To The Metal’ is simple, anthemic and just a load of fun, for starters. More to the point, despite their Century Media debut it’s apparent that Blessed By A Broken Heart are actually pop with metal leanings rather than the other way around – this is sugar-shot synth-pop mixed with ‘80s glam-metal and enough hairspray to warrant a fire hazard, to be precise. There’s no doubt this lot are all about Motley Crue and Guns’n’Roses flashbacks but ‘Pedal To The Metal’ also proves the band can rock the f**k out on their own terms. Pardon the title, but She Wolf stands as an album highlight, thanks to its huge chorus and schizoid solo attacks, proceeding onto the equally catchy and keyboard-overindulging Show Me What You Got. Again, the fact that this is cheese of the most moronic kind cannot be overstated, but it’s just what the doctor ordered as far as a soundtrack to a reckless night on the piss is concerned. Oh, and Doing It kinda sounds like the theme from ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ – what more could you ask for? Perhaps a confirmation that this is all tongue-in-cheek… Right? Surely. Glam-core, hair-core, dumb-core… call it what you want, it sounds like a party in full swing. Now sing it: “We came to rock your town/And show you what it’s like to get down.” | ![]() |
