The Boat People

This Brisbane band has been prominent on the Queensland circuit for a few years and released some self-assured EPs and harnessed solid live support. Now the Boat People reach its first album and a delicate and subtle pop existence awaits the listener, a slight change from the jazz-influenced forays previously heard. A very vibrant, cool opening track “Clean” appeals strongly while the psychedelic touches of “Unsettle My Heart” and harmony-laden “Tell Someone Who Cares” give a good indication of the talent the band possesses. Certainly, the energy and emotion is all there to hear and the production quality is tidy and assured. This is well worth a listen as a well-balanced, original debut album.
