Coming from Victoria, I know very little of the Maroubra boys and their fearsome reputation north of the border except for what I read from the media release attached to this disc. That said, it‘s all about the music and without having seen the film, it's a real disappointment of a soundtrack with a mish mash of selections. It traverses between hip hop, hard rock, surf rock and electronic and comes across as something that will be easily overlooked. Some of the songs are quite old, with Regurgitator's 'Don't Go To Sleep’ and Grinspoon‘s 'Champion’ being two obvious examples. Other tunes we‘ve all heard before range from the delightful but tiresome 'La Mar (The Ocean)’ by The Beautiful Girls, Butterfly Effect‘s 'Reach’ and the brilliant but heard it enough already, ‘Steamworks’ by The Presets. With three venomous tracks by hip hoppers 3Seven7 and three from downbeat slow rockers The Camels, it's a case of one from each would have been plenty. As far as soundtracks go, this is at polar opposites to the strength and reputation of Sydney's 'bra boys.
