:: Carla Werner - Departure

Carla Werner

Although Carla is New Zealand born, we Australians should consider her one of our own. I remember seeing her perform five years ago at the Pacific Circle Music showcase in Sydney. She then displayed the qualities of a beautiful voice with potential to go a long way. She has lived the majority of her time since in the USA and has reached the stage of presenting her debut album. It’s terrific to see her develop with her seductive and warm voice wanting to be heard. Carla sings truly from the heart and soul and there are very meaningful lyrics that will keep coming back to you. Her introspective thoughts conjure up evocative images and provide an excellent platform for her career to escalate. Further development with some edgier words and music could well propel her standing much further in the future. As it is, she shows enough with this album to suggest there’s not much wrong in how she’s going about things now. Highlight tracks for me are “Under”, “Like Mercury”, and “Make It Up”. Hopefully, we’ll see more of her in this country. In the meantime, I strongly recommend this album.
