:: Chaos Divine - AvalonChaos DivineHands down, Chaos Divine’s ‘Avalon’ deserves the title as the best Australian metal albums to be released this year… in fact you can go a step further than that and say that it is one of the best metal releases from anywhere in the world. Chaos Divine threatened big things with their debut EP but nobody could have expected a metal masterpiece like ‘Avalon’ for their debut album. Obviously playing alongside metal royalty like Slayer, Fear Factory, Devil Driver and Mastodon has rubbed off on these Western Australians, because there is so much to love about this album. The album kicks off with a brilliant guitar solo that starts ‘Contortion’ and it’s then you know you are on to something special, and by the time the song breaks out into Chaos Divine’s special style of melodic death metal you are well and truly in love with the sound. ‘Our Delusion’ sees Chaos Divine mix death vocals with an instrumental sound not too dissimilar to Cradle Of Filth but captures the listener with a magnificent melody. That brilliant melodic sound also shines through on ‘Avalon’ and ‘The Carnal Thirst’; the later also consists of some more terrific guitar work, so great that when you hear it you know this band is going places. Chaos Divine do mix and match their sound terrifically, ‘Refuse The Sickness´ and ‘Brand New Eyes’ see them turn to the brutal side, ‘Rapture’ sees the rise of a thrash metal sound while ‘Alone In The Sky’ is a beautiful metal ballad that doesn’t bore you to death like some ballads can. Instead it captures your ears with its terrific instrumentals. However by far the best track on ‘Avalon’ is ‘Cages’; a wonderful piece of epic modern death that is made ten times better by David Anderton’s vocals. His voice shines throughout this album. This is a must have for metal fans. ‘Avalon’ is one of the best metal releases of the year and after listening to this album just once you just know that Chaos Divine are the next big thing in the metal world…the world is theirs for the taking. |
