:: Coal Chamber - The Best Of

Coal Chamber

It’s time for Coal Chamber to release a greatest hits package. Followers of the metal/heavy rock scene would probably sense that this band had been somewhat underrated over its life in music. They can emit a brutal, blasting sound or a slightly less belligerent tone of something dark and mysterious. There is a cross section of tracks from their self-titled album, “Chamber Music” and “Dark Days”. Added to them are a couple of B-sides released in 2003 under the banner of “Giving The Devil His Due”. They may have packaged it better with some rare material or booklet that describes their career. The really good tracks come from their early material. The band’s thundering rhythms and pulverising guitars epitomise the strength of those times because that standard wasn’t maintained in the more recent times. However, fans will like the CD because it is well selected and representative of their worth back in the great 90s period. They had a charismatic look with Dez Favara out front with his devilish growls. You will notice how the band developed through the chronological listing of tracks. From their terrific “Loco” track from the debut album, which quickly drew attention, to their more experimental work on “Chamber Music” and the heavier effort of “Dark Days”, this compilation gives a good outline of Coal Chamber’s career. It’s just a pity that some rare or insightful material wasn’t included in the package. It’s a good CD to remember the band by.
