:: Constantine - ConstantineConstantineNot having ever watched American Idol, I learned that this album was by 2005 entrant Constantine Maroulis, a Greek-American who apparently didn't make a big impression at the time. Yet he became sought after for acting and modelling roles and had a stint in Broadway and in the long-running TV soap opera “The Bold And The Beautiful”. My first listen to him, through this debut self-titled album, indicates a powerful and expressive vocalist who seems to put everything into his performance. There are some worthwhile sounds, notably the driving “I Thought It Was Something” and the Latin groove on the opening track “Girl Like You”. The theme concentrates on love and Constantine brings intensity to the subject with heartfelt and dramatic feelings. One of the best of the heartfelt moments is “So Long”, and I am sure this will be a live favourite for fans. This is his strength as i am not sure about the more uptempo rock songs. The soulful, R&B excursions may be his best bet and I am sure his singing and, inportantly, songwriting will continue to evolve. | ![]() www.myspace.com/constantinemaroulis |
