:: Cosima - CosimaCosimaAustralian Idol has been a ticket to the music business for a number of the 2003 finalists. Shannon Noll, Paulini and Rob Mills have all had success off the back of their involvement in the program. Being the last one to release material must have been an uneasy situation for Cosima, especially considering she was overlooked by major record companies and instead took the risky path of creating her own. If realty television programs such as Idol have proven anything, it’s that fame can be extremely short lived, especially when there are a new crop of finalists hot on your heels and eating into your once sure fire market. Cosima has achieved a number one single on her remake of ‘When The War Is Over’, but her true test is yet to come. The fact that she secured industry heavyweight Diane Warren, not only to write her entire album but also act as a producer, shows that she is certainly determined, but can Cosima survive without the support of a major label and their aggressive PR machines? The album, if given a chance, will appeal to many. Cosima comes across as a younger, edgier Celine Dion, a styling that will undoubtedly prove popular. The subject is love, and Cosima uses this album to discuss it at length, how it’s lost, how you feel when it’s found, and of course the moment when it’s all over. It’s here my only real criticism resides, in that there is no diversity in subject and therefore the album will be unlikely to experience any great longevity. Those who were fans of Cosima on Idol will definitely like this album, for those still unsure I recommend using the listening station before purchase. | ![]() |
