:: Custom Kings - Where Do They Go?

Custom Kings

An EP is often described as the ‘first taste’ of a debut album. If this 7 track EP from Melbourne band Custom Kings is anything to go by, I’ll be taking all you can eat. Their music is like honey to the ears. The melodic arpeggios, the elegant and sometimes childlike vocals, the charming funkiness of their reggae based tracks – the Custom Kings really have a distinct and refreshing style. It transcends jazz, reggae, hip-hop and folk genres, but it’s their more poignant acoustic songs that draw the listener in. This entire EP is worth getting just to hear the heartbreaking Rose Pickles. This intimacy the Custom Kings create is what makes a band great in a live setting. And considering their past residencies at the Espy in St Kilda and the Bells Beach Hotel, it seems many others agree. Check them out.
