:: Cyndi Lauper - The Body Acoustic

Cyndi Lauper

Many may see 80's pop goddess Cyndi Lauper as a “has been”, or tacky, but her last few releases have proven that she has what it takes to contend in the 21st century. While her last album, At Last, released in 2003 featured a string of classic ballads re-interpreted Cyndi style, and became a surprise hit with critics and fans alike, her latest album, The Body Acoustic, takes the exact opposite direction of the last, as this time Cyndi has decided to cover her own hits. The catch? Her songs have been remixed into uniquely emotive duets, as she pairs up with some of music's biggest names, including Sarah McLachlan and Shaggy. Lauper somehow takes her classic hits and manages to modernise them, with each track feels crisp and current. What's most impressive however is that Lauper is able to retain the emotion of the originals, with each word delivered with incredible emotion and passion. Not one of these tracks sounds fake, forced, or aged. They're simple, with minimal instrumental interruption, leaving the re-interpretations mostly to Lauper, her guest, and their vocal delivery. Its a warm, cute set of songs that feel fresh and modern. The lyrics, and Lauper's emotional delivery is just as effective even after all these years.
