Dan has moved away from the well-produced country albums he’d done previously towards the guitar-based rock-pop tendencies. This album gets pretty feisty at times with some foot-stompers and driving guitar blasts setting up anthemic flavours. His ability for those heart-wrenching ballads hasn’t disappeared altogether but his emotion-filled vocals now accompany some euphoric atmospheres and infectious melodies. It just serves to show Dan’s versatility and growing skills as a songwriter. He should be pleased with ‘Beautiful Crimes’.
