:: Dan Parsons - Run With MeDan ParsonsIt’s not easy to get your big break in music. Being good just doesn’t cut it anymore. You’ve got to have something unique, something no one else has. And if his flagship single ‘Run With Me’ is anything to go by, it looks like Melbourne one-man-band Dan Parsons has just that. ‘Run With Me’ opens with some rollicking toms and laid-back guitars. Lyrically it’s nothing spectacular but Parsons sounds like Jack Johnson, without all the annoying drawling, folksy vibe that made Johnson hard to bear. Instead Parsons’ vocals are honest, genuine and comforting like an old but much loved winter jacket. And while ‘Run With Me’ is a great single, winding to a finish with a carefully layered soft-rock guitar hum, additional track ‘Cut Off’ is even better. Here Parsons comes out with some stunning and aching vocals, which laid over a pounding acoustic beat (aided by a very successful synthesizer) draw you in and keep you there. From every angle Dan Parsons seems like a very talented modern indie/rock artist. ‘Run With Me’ proves he’s got the goods. But we’ll have to wait to see whether his debut album is as inspirational as this single. | ![]() |
