Dave Matthews [ huge, make that massively huge ] in the USA has given us this release minus his usual bandmates from ‘The Dave Matthews Band’…so it’s Dave Matthews and Band and not the Dave Matthews Band. Perhaps, he should seek out his usual bandmates because this is one very standard collection of songs. Its not country, rock, pop, jazz, blues or any other genre you care to imagine, which, don’t get me wrong, is not a bad thing….it just does not slide into any groove or enjoyable rhythm at all. With tales of faith and an over-indulgent use of a full 50 piece Seattle Music Group consisting of strings, horns, cellos, and violas, the listener is left wondering what it all means. As talented as he obviously is, there are some finer moments, when he turns up the passion on ‘Grave Digger’ or gets a little experimental with his excellent voice and sound on ‘An’ Another thing’. However this is a File for the ‘for fans only’ cabinet.
