:: Day I Die - MurderessDay I DieThey could hardly be called the most well known acts within the Melbourne metallic punk rock scene, but four-piece act Day I Die are certainly one of the more persistent and determined acts around, with a couple of EPs already to their name. Although the band have been a little quiet over the last couple of years, they’ve more than made up for their absence with the release of their new six track EP ‘Murderess’, which is also their first for Adelaide independent/D.I.Y. label Two Bucks Records. The opening track ‘Bottom Of The Lake’ is fairly indicative of what can be expected from the bulk of the EP with the overall fast paced mix of metal guitars with a strong punk edge present in Matt’s vocals out the front, while the bass heavy ‘Blood For Blood’ and the faster still ‘Aftermath’ see Matt inject a little melody into the chorus structures, along with some additional screaming elements into the former, to great effect. The slower tempo at the start of the title track ‘Murderess’ doesn’t linger too long as the speed builds and builds as the seconds tick over, while ‘The Coven’ features a brutal breakdown around the three quarter mark that really stands out. Finishing up the EP is somewhat disjointed ‘Suffering And Bleeding’, which draws together the punk like influences of the combined four-piece with a decidedly thrash like clash of guitars and bass rhythms. Day I Die have definitely produced their best work to date on ‘Murderess’, and with some new tour dates lined up outside of their home state, the latter end of the year is set to be a busy period for the band. | ![]() http://www.myspace.com/dayidie |
