Days Like Stars

There is something so familiar about Sydney band Days Like Stars, but I can’t quite put my finger on what ‘it’ is. Is it the pronounced Aussie accent of lead singer Billy Coleman? The fact that they have been featured on television’s ‘Love My Way’? Or the wistful songwriting reminiscent of fellow soundtrackers, the now defunct Melbourne band Motor Ace? Most of all, I can’t shake the feeling that this is what Something for Kate would sound like on meds. These thoughts are unsettling and niggle at some subconscious level no matter how many times I listen to their enticing EP ‘Fight the Sunset’. Like the lyrics of ‘Thunderstorm’, ‘like a thunderstorm / without any rain’, there’s some essential element missing here that all the dreamy production and heart-felt lyrics in the world can’t make up for.
