From this English band comes a gorgeous record. It must be the breezy, ocean-filled air of Southampton that allows the pop romance flavours come through. There are several songs that you can listen to over and over. Try “Nearer Than Heaven”, “Wanderlust”, and “Hey Girl” as just two examples. In true Britpop tradition, one can get a taste of Stereophonics or the Manic Street Preachers. It is jaunty, dreamy, and atmospheric. There is a slight downtempo feel in the midst of the album but they are suitably elegant anyway. The catchy three-minute pop song brings back some 60s relics to one’s mind. The last few tracks don’t disappear into the ether. The songs remain warm and beautiful. Overall, it’s a rare catch. The delightful throbs and crisp musicianship will fascinate and it brings some sweet pop back into action. The Delays have produced an excellent debut record.
