Despina burst on the scene last year with her single “Gia”. It was a dance song that was always sure to cross over into mainstream radio and European radio stations were all over it. It received kudos in Australia also and the attractive Greek singer used all the Greek cultural influences in having the right mix to make it work. Now, the album of the same name displays Despina’s vocal artistry in forming styles of pure pop and gorgeous ballads. The seductive oriental beats are a highlight to get hips shaking fervently. The follow-up song to Gia”, late last year, was “Opa Opa” and these two tracks are the English contributions on the album. The remaining tracks are Greek but the musical arrangements are beautifully done to create a great atmosphere. If you’re looking for something from the core of the Greek spirit, then this CD will suit.
