:: Detective Social - Tiny Victories

Detective Social

Any radio Triple J listeners will be currently aware of Melbourne based indie rockers, Detective Social as their track ‘Poison From A Plastic Cup’ has been recently played to their playlist… and what a song it is. It comes as a surprise that ‘Tiny Victories’ is Detective Social’s debut EP as the music found here sounds like it comes from a band that has grouped up confidence over years and years of playing together. This is a sensational EP with no weak tracks in sight. ‘Patterns + Static’ consists of the sweet pop rock sound that has made Kisschasy famous, only Detective Social captures a more enriching melodic sound. ‘Expired Passports’ sees Detective soundingly alarmingly like Bloc Party but is the classic pop rock sound and magnificent lyrics of ‘Poison From A Plastic Cup’ that tells you that Detective Social are going to be the next big things in Australian music. The maturity of this band is on show with tracks like ‘Leslie’ and ‘Paint The World’ which sees them call upon the smooth instrumental sounds normally reserved for bands like Sigur Ros and then deliver the classic sounding indie rock sounding vocals that make tracks like these stand out. Even ‘Landscape/Mindscape’ tries some experimental instrumental sounds and rounds off the perfect EP. A great debut by a band that will not only conquer Australia, but has the world at its feet ready for the taking.
