:: Diesel - Days Like TheseDieselAfter two decades in the business, Diesel’s new album proves he’s still got it. Days Like These is, for an Australian music veteran, surprisingly fresh and current. Definitely more radio-friendly then some of his older albums, Days Like These plays like a summer’s day at the beach: relaxing and laid back. Sure the lyrics aren’t life changing and the melodies aren’t anything you haven’t heard before, but the album has a nice, raw and simple feel. The title track, Days Like These, doesn’t sound like it’s been produced in a studio but instead you get the feeling Diesel was just jamming and the result is organic and casual. But die-hard fans don’t panic! Diesel hasn’t gone soft and succumbed to pop music just to get on the radio. The extremely funky double bass in the title track will assure you that Diesel hasn’t forgotten his blues roots and these roots continue throughout the album with Lay Down Here. Another classically uncomplicated song, Lay Down Here has a great melody, smooth vocals, and a rocking electric guitar, not to mention some very powerful, female back up singers. By track number six you get the idea that Diesel isn’t just a bluesman. Another soulful and easygoing track, Prisoner proves that Diesel’s not a one trick pony and he uses Days Like These to show not only his blues talents but also his skills over a wide range of genres. Pop, soul, rock, Diesel handles it with the same cool and innovative charm. An eclectic album, Days Like These is Diesel staying true to his signature sound and trying something new at the same time, both with great success. | ![]() |
