:: Various Artists - Disney Greatest Musicals

Various Artists

The 2 CDs in this album is not only a compilation of the greatest Disney film soundtracks, but also a collection of childhood memories. Listening to this album will definitely bring out the kid in everyone, as arguably everyone who had a childhood would have watched Disney cartoons when they were tots. Most of the songs were orchestral, true to old school Disney’s style. However, with the addition of the newer Disney movies’ soundtracks such as those of the hugely popular High School Musical, the album became a mix of old and modern sounds to signify Disney’s journey through the years. Some songs are inspirational, while some makes you want to stand up and tap your feet. From “A Spoonful of Sugar” of Mary Poppins to “Under the Sea” of The Little Mermaid to “The Happy Working Song” of Enchanted, they are so full of cheer, sunshine, rainbows and butterflies that it makes you think it impossible to ever be sad again. However, selection of the songs for the compilation is a bit of a hit and miss affair. Some most popular songs such as “When You Wish Upon a Star” and “A Whole New World” are present, but some significant ones like “Beauty and the Beast” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” are missing. But that’s not
even enough to tamper the delight one will experience listening to this album. Arrangement of the songs was equally splendid. The first CD saw the album opening with a High School Musical song “Breaking Free” which talks of great ambitions and dreams. The last song for the album “We’re All in This Together”, also from High School Musical, is undoubtedly a great way to end the album, as it had the film. The song tells us we’re all in this enchanted world of Disney’s together, and hand in hand, we can all make our dreams come true. If ever you’re having a bad or miserable day, have a go at this album. It’ll brighten up your day before you can say “Chim Chim Cher-ee”!
