:: Drawn From Bees - Fear Not The Footsteps Of The Departed

Drawn From Bees

Brisbane’s art rockers Drawn from Bees committed themselves to independently write, record and release four records within last two years on their own record label Bonefinger Records. Their debut album Fear Not The Footsteps Of The Departed was the beautiful result and the final chapter of their commitment released this year. Each of the fourteen tracks tell a love story. Although, it’s a seriously kind of love story - with heartbreakingly beautiful tracks each expressing intellectual concepts. The album begins with the funky indie pop track ‘Run Away,’ which successfully sets the theme of the album. With deep but true lyrics that take you through the journey of running away. Although the beginning of the song seems serious and perhaps depressing, you’ll find yourself singing along with the ‘whoo’s’ and feel yourself run away with the music. The second track ‘Always The Last’ creates a 70’s rock n’ roll feel, showing the Drawn from Bee’s diverse sound. ‘Awful Mess’ gives a taste of alternative punk as it is guided with heavy drums. This song is sexy. With the guitar cords creating a siren sound this song rocks out. ‘Stand Against The Storm’ is the standout song of the album. Its spark is the memorable lead up to the chorus. When the chorus, “Pretty sure it’ll kill us all’ begins, the song becomes upbeat and unforgettable. ‘Lights On’ shows the uniqueness of the art rock band. With its unusual sound and low tempo, combined with soft vocal cords, this song will grow on you. The album ends with the sweetly slow track ‘Why Bother’. The upward stepping vocal harmonies make a delicate sound and an appropriate finale for the love story theme. When listening to this album, you find yourself in a trance that is hard to get out of. ‘Fear Not The Footsteps Of The Departed’ is addictive because of its uniqueness. A perfect finish to their project of four records in two years. Drawn from Bees is an example of pure ambition, and this final chapter surely has left us craving their next venture.
