Dresden Dolls

It’s not hard to be trapped or to succumb to the sweetness of Amanda Palmer. The Dresden Dolls singer can deliver some biting lyrics yet also come across as sweet as a lollipop. If you heard the band’s first album, you’ll see a strong shift in focus in this new record. One thing is that it is an even collection of songs – that is, no standouts that grab you by the throat. Whether that’s good for the Dresden Dolls or not, one can only speculate. I suspect they are the sort of act that needs something by which we can etch in our memory. Mind you, this is still an album that shows their considerable talent. Amanda’s gorgeous vocals shine on “Delilah”. Other more pop-rock numbers include “Shores Of California” and “Mrs O”. One thing for sure, despite what one might think about the nature of their music, this is a tight unit that displays great passion and charisma.
