This is a look back by Eddi Reader on the collection of traditional music by Robert Burns. It’s extremely Scottish in passion and character. She does some great renditions and makes you feel at home (or suitably in a Scottish pub). There are some wonderful pieces of instrumentation -–violin on ‘Jamie Come Try Me’, the double bass on ‘My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose’, and the sparse guitars on ‘Ye Jacobites’. And you can sing and dance to ‘Charlie Is My Darling’. Eddi conjures up all the right images and sets up a perfect soundscape with these gorgeous melodies. A lovely set of songs for the right moment.
