:: Edward Guglielmino - Late At Night

Edward Guglielmino

He’s cynical and he’s the epitome of what those conventional types would call just plain annoying. But can there be any other way for a ‘weird’ guy who boasts incredible keyboard warrior skills? This guy is not stupid. He might advertise negative publicity but, in the subjective world, the mass recollect the music business as, any publicity is well… it’s just that, publicity. Publicity attracts sales and within a healthy national scene, this isn’t so easy to stir. After all, if it wasn’t for the fact that Peter Doherty was a heroin junkie, the chances of him selling as many albums as he did are slim to none. Guglielmino might be a prick at times, but he has something to say and being nice about it doesn’t quite cut it, well on MySpace anyway. Guglielmino’s early success is certainly proof MySpace can be an enterprising platform for independent band hype. Curse those Sonic Youth fans who rejected his friend request.

So onto the album, upon hearing the first track anyone unfamiliar will notice Edward does not have a conventional rock voice and one can gather: ‘this guy actually has some genuine talent.’ It’s a sombre but reflective sound that makes me reminisce the crying days of Jeff Buckley. It’s post-millennium Jeff with a slight sonic post-punk edge. It is certainly an innovative sound from an innovative chap who obviously interprets music as a more synthetic spiritual front, more so then the mediocrity that heads labels like EMI and Sony. I hope he doesn’t sign. I know he won’t but I dread the day. This album is the work of an auteur, providing unparalleled insight into a complex but perhaps cohesive conscious.
