:: Electric Mary - The Definition Of InsanityElectric MaryDo you remember classic rock? Remember when songs were built around a meaty riff, and featured genuine guitar solos and a chorus that actually had a bit of balls, but memorable all the same? Well if you have an extensive vinyl collection that goes back a few decades, then the answer is most likely, ‘Hell yeah!’. But does classic rock still exist today? You bet it does, and it comes in the form of Melbourne based five-piece act Electric Mary. Although I’m a bit of a latecomer discovering the band, I certainly didn’t waste time getting my hands on their new E.P. ‘The Definition Of Insanity’. Getting things underway in true rocking fashion is the bass/drum driven ‘No One Does It Better Than Me’, while a subtle retro sound can be heard in the groove laden ‘Let Me Out’. Brown puts in a commanding performance through the choruses in the infectious ‘One In A Million’ and ‘Luv Me’, while the energetic ‘One Foot In The Grave’ ensures that ‘The Definition Of Insanity’ ends with an almighty bang. Although a little on the short side (running sixteen and a half minutes in total), Electric Mary pack more riffs, guitar solos and energy into the five tracks on ‘The Definition Of Insanity’ than most other acts can on two full lengths albums. Electric Mary rock in big way, and prove beyond a doubt that classic rock isn’t anything dead. | ![]() http://www.myspace.com/electricmary |
