:: Enrique Iglesias - Greatest HitsEnrique IglesiasMany Australians will be surprised to know that Enrique Iglesias is still around and making music. He peaked here with his 2001 album “Escape’, but no sooner did he start his relationship with Anna Kournikova then his new stuff really didn’t take off in Australia. ‘Greatest Hits’ is a celebration of his career (and comes with the hope that it may spark people’s interest in him again) and features all his big hits including ‘Hero’, ‘Rhythm Divine’, ‘Not In Love (with Kelis)’, ‘Don’t Turn Off The Lights’ and perhaps his best single of all, ‘Escape’. It also features ‘Bailamos’ a hit that only diehard fans would have as it featured on the ‘Wild Wild West’ soundtrack and tracks that made it big overseas but not in Australia, the typically Latin-pop ‘Be With You’ and the ‘Do You Know’ which interestingly enough uses a ping-pong ball sample as percussion. The unfortunate thing about this album is that it sadly resembles Enrique’s career way too closely. There are great standout tracks but they are spoilt by a lot of weak tracks including ‘Maybe’, ‘Addicted’, ‘Somedbody’s Me’ and perhaps the worst ever attempt at dance music with ‘Can You Hear Me’. However maybe things are looking up for Enrique as the two new songs to be released off ‘Greatest Hits’ are actually pretty good. ‘Away’ which features Sean Garrett is typical Enrique Latin-pop while ‘Takin’ Back My Love’ sees Enrique team with Ciara and try a new R’n’B that sound…that works remarkably well. 'Greatest Hits’ is a chance to remember some past classics, just be prepared to skip over some complete disasters as well. | ![]() |
